DJ Obese

Dublin's DJ OBese AKA Barry O' Brien spent many an hour crafting his DJ skills while pretending to study a degree in Hospitality Management in Manchester (UK). It was while in Manchester that he was introduced to many different types of Club nights and music styles!

With a stroke of good luck and a mixtape getting to the right person he began to play at the Vinyl Frontier in Club Elemental, Oxford Rd, playing in the back room where he was free to play all styles encompassing Hiphop, Reggae, Dancehall, Breakbeat, House, Disco and Drum n Bass. In 2004 the Drum Music Club night was started and DJ O.B. (as he was known then) was a resident and promoter. Soon after he started a few smaller gigs in Joy Bar Manchester.

After completing his degree he immediately enrolled in Manchester's School of Sound Recording where Cubase and reason courses were completed. With less and less time to spend in the studio and an angry landlord chasing him for rent, DJ O.B. moved back to Dublin in 2006 to focus on the production side of things.

In 2006 after a further production course in Dublin, Barry learned how to use the Ableton production programme and has been using it ever since. Back in his home town, Barry set up the Break-Down club night with Jay Sharp. The night is still running today and has since formed a live band/soundsystem as well as a record label which represents the free-style nature of the club night. With a DJ in Dublin already using the name DJ O.B., Barry changed his moniker to OBese which has stuck till today.

Teaming up with Jay in the studio under the Dirty Dubster Banner, things have developed very quickly with their own Digital label (Dirty Dubster Digital) and vinyl label with Breakdown records with Irelands Johnny Pluse - the lads have been very busy!
